Providence Climate Capital Sponsored Australian Geographic Society Awards to Support Environmental Conservation
Conservation and climate change are deeply interconnected issues in Australia, and Providence Climate Capital [PCC] is committed to a cleaner and greener future. As an innovation-led firm that focuses on active asset management , of renewables and storage assets, PCC understands the critical role that conservation efforts play in mitigating the effects of climate change to protect Australia’s rich natural heritage.
The Australian Geographic Society Event
In recognition of the importance of environmental conservation, PCC recently sponsored the inaugural Australian Geographic Society Awards event, which recognized outstanding achievements in conservation and exploration by Australians. The event, held on October 28, 2022, honoured the best conservationists and adventurers in Australia and New Zealand, and PCC was honoured to present the Lifetime of Conservation Award to Dr. John Wamsley, a renowned conservationist who has spent his life conserving Australian ecosystems.
Dr. Wamsley’s Lifetime of Conservation Work
Dr. John Wamsley is an inspirational conservationist who has devoted his life to preserving Australia’s unique wildlife and habitats. One of his most significant achievements was the development of the feral proof fence, a pioneering innovation that has since become a cornerstone of modern conservation efforts. Dr. Wamsley recognized that the only way to protect the animals at Warrawong was to create an impenetrable barrier that would keep out feral animals while allowing threatened species and native wildlife to thrive.
Dr. Wamsley’s vision and pioneering spirit have left a legacy in the field of conservation, and his feral proof fence continues to protect and preserve Australia’s uniqueness for future generations.
Natalie Brooke, Head of Investor Relations, at PCC who presented the Award to Dr Wamsley said: “Dr. Wamlsey took action to protect something not prioritised enough by society, but already in danger. He saw what needed to be done and pursued it with persistence, certainty and clarity of focus, regardless of the obstacles.
We understand this at Providence Climate Capital as we work to bring about faster decarbonisation by innovating renewable energy asset management. Doing what’s needed to protect our ecosystem is one of the most important jobs there is.

The Intersection of Renewable Energy and Conservation
As climate change threatens ecosystems and the species that depend on them, companies like PCC play a crucial role in addressing these challenges. PCC focuses on actively managing renewable energy and storage assets using sophisticated technology to ensure the maximum amount of energy from renewable sources can be captured, stored and used during peak periods.
Solar Farms in Australia: A Solution for Climate-Affected Areas and Wildlife Conservation
PCC manages a portfolio of mid-scale solar farms throughout regional Victoria and New South Wales. The majority of these are located near once-thriving farming towns that have suffered greatly in recent years due to prolonged drought and more recently significant flooding. The large open area around the solar panels provides opportunities to recreate new habitats for various species, which are essential for the local ecosystem. There are multiple benefits solar farms can bring to climate-affected areas. Studies have shown that during draught periods, solar panels that “sleep” on an angle at nighttime, collect dew that drips down and irrigates the ground beneath, forming strips of grass for animals, such as sheep, to feed on. Solar panels can also provide shade for animals in periods of extreme heat and protection from rain and hail during storms.
Green Hydrogen Energy Storage Technology: A Sustainable Energy Source Alternative
PCC is also a cornerstone investor and incubator for LAVO, a company that is developing green hydrogen energy storage technology. This technology has the potential to revolutionize the energy industry by providing a reliable and sustainable source of energy storage. Being able to store energy from the sun when it’s at its most powerful during the day – to use at nighttime when we tend to use the most electricity in our homes is essential to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
By actively managing renewable energy assets and developing innovative technologies to capture maximum energy from the sun and wind, PCC is not only supporting the transition to a cleaner, greener energy future but also helping to protect the natural habitats of Australia’s unique wildlife.
The Importance of Environmental Conservation in Australia
Australia is home to some of the world’s most unique and diverse ecosystems, including the Great Barrier Reef, the Outback, and the Tasmanian wilderness. These ecosystems are under threat from climate change, habitat loss, and other human activities, and conservation efforts are critical to protecting them. We at PCC as an innovation-led renewable energy asset manager are proud to be the sponsors of the Australian Geographic Society Awards and present the Lifetime of Conservation Award to Dr John Wamsley. We hope that by shining a light on John’s lifelong conservation efforts, a new generation of environmental leaders will be inspired to continue finding novel ways to preserve our planet well into the future.
